A 36-year-old Rome man died after losing control of his motorcycle and striking a guardrail on an exit ramp from Route 12 in Utica, police said.
UTICA, N.Y. – A 36-year-old Rome man died after a motorcycle crash Thursday morning on the Oriskany Street ramp off Route 12, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police and Utica Fire units were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:05 a.m. after receiving reports of a motorcycle accident. Investigators said the operator lost control of the motorcycle before striking a guardrail.
Rider died at hospital
The motorcyclist, identified as Sean Jordan, was transported to Wynn Hospital, where medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures.
Despite those efforts, Jordan died from his injuries at the hospital. Police extended their condolences to his family following the fatal crash.
Investigation continues
The Utica Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Authorities have not released additional information about what may have caused the rider to lose control. Police said updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
