BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Nearly 200 firearms, including nine assault rifles, were surrendered during a Brooklyn gun buyback event Saturday, with participants receiving up to $500 per eligible weapon, officials announced.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office said a total of 191 firearms were collected during the event, which was held at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Clinton Hill in partnership with the New York City Police Department, New York Attorney General Letitia James and State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
The collection included 158 revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, nine assault rifles and other firearms turned in by participants.
Under the program, participants received $500 for each operable handgun or assault rifle, up to three firearms per person. Ghost guns and 3D-printed firearms qualified for $200 each, while rifles and shotguns earned $75 and air guns, imitation pistols or inoperable firearms earned $25.
The first 60 participants also received a $100 retail gift card.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, more than 1,000 firearms have been collected through Brooklyn gun buyback events over the past four years. Officials said Saturday’s event produced the second-highest number of surrendered weapons during that period.
The event comes as Brooklyn continues to report historically low levels of gun violence. According to the District Attorney’s Office, homicides, shooting incidents and shooting victims have continued to decline in 2026 after reaching record lows last year.
