Suspect charged with first degree murder in July 4 homicide
NORTHEAST DC — Weeks after a man was found dead on an Irving Street sidewalk early on the Fourth of July, investigators have arrested a suspect and charged him with first-degree murder, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Officers responded at approximately 5:54 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, to the 1800 block of Irving Street Northeast for a report of an unconscious person.
When officers arrived, they found an adult man who was unconscious and not breathing.
DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Police identified the victim as 55-year-old Adeyinka Aderemi of Northeast DC.
On Tuesday, July 21, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 53-year-old George Shaw of Northeast DC on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.
Shaw has been charged with first-degree murder while armed (premeditated).
Court records detailing the allegations against Shaw have not yet been released.
The charge is an allegation, and Shaw is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
