Authorities searched woods near Watchung and North Plainfield after emergency call but found no evidence of a victim
NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A large-scale search involving a State Police helicopter, drones, K-9 units and multiple police agencies ended without locating a reported person in distress or finding evidence of an emergency, according to the North Plainfield Police Department.
The search began at approximately 7:45 a.m. Thursday after the Watchung Police Department received a report from a concerned citizen about a person in distress in the area of East Drive.
North Plainfield police responded to assist officers from the neighboring municipality.
Authorities focused their search on the wooded area between East Drive and Edgemont Road, where officers conducted an extensive ground search.
The operation also included drone technology, New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit personnel and police K-9 teams.
After thoroughly searching the area, authorities said they did not locate anyone in distress and found no additional evidence of an emergency or any threat to the public.
The search was subsequently called off.
