Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Roasting Company is recalling more than 3,000 gallons of its pasteurized cold brew concentrate distributed to wholesale customers in New York and New Jersey after identifying a potential risk of Clostridium botulinum toxin formation.
The recall affects 2.5-gallon bag-in-box containers of Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate distributed between April 1 and June 20. Officials said the affected products carry best-by dates ranging from June 30 through September 30, with lot codes spanning 063026 through 093026.
Wholesale product only affected
According to the company, the recall is limited to wholesale and business partners that received the concentrate. Retail canned beverages and coffee served at Brooklyn Roasting Company cafés are not included in the recall.
Consumers who purchased canned cold brew products from stores or ordered drinks from company cafés are not affected.
Botulism can cause life-threatening illness
The company said improper storage conditions may allow the growth of Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium capable of producing a dangerous neurotoxin that causes botulism.
Symptoms of botulism can include muscle weakness, double vision, difficulty speaking or swallowing, and trouble breathing. The illness can become life-threatening if not treated promptly.

Businesses and customers in possession of the recalled cold brew concentrate should not consume the product. The company advises disposing of the affected concentrate or returning it to the place of purchase.
