Police are asking for tips after a man was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds during an early morning welfare check.
NORTH VERSAILLES, PA — A predawn welfare check ended at a homicide scene after first responders found a man lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, launching an active death investigation in Allegheny County.
The incident unfolded at about 1:41 a.m. Wednesday in the area of 506 Irishtown Road, according to the Allegheny County Police Department.
Emergency crews were dispatched after Allegheny County 9-1-1 received a request for a welfare check on a man reported to be down in the roadway.
When first responders arrived, they found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives with the Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded and have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Police have not released the victim’s identity or disclosed what may have led to the shooting.
