Police say months-long probe led to Newark man’s arrest in Townsend
TOWNSEND, Del. — A months-long drug investigation ended with the arrest of a Newark man after Delaware State Police seized suspected crack cocaine, heroin, cocaine, cash and a fraudulent identification card during a traffic stop in Townsend.
The Delaware State Police arrested 31-year-old Wilkin Dejesus-Perez following an investigation that began in June after troopers received information alleging he was distributing narcotics in the Townsend area.
According to investigators, detectives with the Delaware State Police Special Investigations Unit determined Dejesus-Perez was selling drugs from a Honda Accord.
At about 11 a.m. Wednesday, detectives located the vehicle at a convenience store in the 4200 block of DuPont Parkway.
Investigators conducted a traffic stop and took Dejesus-Perez into custody without incident.
Police said a search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 34 grams of suspected crack cocaine, approximately 2.8 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 6.8 grams of suspected heroin, a fraudulent Delaware identification card and more than $2,200 in suspected drug proceeds.
Dejesus-Perez was taken to Troop 9, where he was charged with two counts each of Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity and Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity, along with Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Second-Degree Forgery and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court, he was committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on an $84,200 cash bond.
The allegations against Dejesus-Perez are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
