Vehicles in Glen Burnie, Odenton and Crofton were targeted as police searched multiple neighborhoods for suspects
GLEN BURNIE, MD – Honda owners across parts of Anne Arundel County woke Monday to an overnight airbag theft spree after thieves allegedly forced their way into vehicles in Glen Burnie, Odenton and Crofton and stripped out the airbags before disappearing.
Anne Arundel County Police said Northern District officers responded to the Americana Circle area of Glen Burnie following reports of multiple airbags stolen from Honda vehicles.
A second cluster of thefts was reported in the county’s Western District.
Police said officers responded to seven reported airbag thefts from Honda vehicles in the Piney Orchard Parkway area of Odenton and other locations in Crofton.
In most of the incidents, the suspect or suspects allegedly forced their way into the vehicles before removing the airbags.
Officers canvassed the affected neighborhoods but did not locate any suspects.
Police have not released a total number of thefts across all three communities beyond the seven reported in the Western District and multiple thefts in Glen Burnie.
Investigators are asking residents and businesses with security cameras in the affected areas to review and preserve recordings that could show suspicious people or vehicles.
Police asked residents with potentially useful footage to provide it directly to investigators rather than posting it publicly.
Residents who discover a previous theft can contact the department at 410-222-8610 or file an online crime report. Anyone who witnesses a theft in progress should call 911 and avoid confronting the suspects.
Anne Arundel County residents can also obtain a steering-wheel lock from any county police district station while supplies last. Proof of county residency is required.
