Owned by South County residents and longtime friends, Annie and Garrett Beck along with Sean and Casey Calcagnie, the group is thrilled to bring Mountain Mike’s to their old stomping grounds! With more than 230 locations throughout the western U.S., this marks the fourth location in Orange County where Mountain Mike’s Franchise Support Center is also based.

The expansive 4,642 sq. ft. restaurant offers the welcoming environment that Mountain Mike’s is known for and features the brand’s latest restaurant design just introduced last summer. With both an indoor and outdoor bar serving a 20-tap selection of local beers, an outdoor patio, arcade area, and 10 big screen TVs throughout, the Rancho Santa Margarita Mountain Mike’s is an ideal spot for sports fans, team parties, family gatherings and group fundraising events alike. It was revealed through an interview that the couple’s oldest son claimed Almanza confessed to the crime while driving to the border with Romero’s body in the passenger seat. Family members last saw Romero on Friday. Almanza’s mother informed Mexican authorities about the alleged murder, prompting an investigation into the incident believed to have occurred in Long Beach. Miguel Angel Gaxiola, a prosecutor in Baja California, stated that information was being exchanged to locate the crime scene. The son mentioned that his father had been dealing with mental illness for several years. Almanza was apprehended on Sunday in relation to Romero’s death. He reported to detectives that an argument occurred before the alleged killing, although the motive and cause of death remain unclear.

Tonimarie A. Barrett, 42, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, making terroristic threats, and recklessly endangering another person. Prompted by a call about an abandoned child, police responded to a Turkey Hill convenience store early on Sunday around 5:19 a.m. First responders found Barrett’s daughter unharmed but alone at the location. Barrett and her daughter had left a residence in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, around midnight for New Rochelle, New York. During their journey, Barrett stopped at a closed gas station to input directions into a GPS, where an argument ensued between mother and daughter that escalated quickly. According to police reports, Barrett threatened to stab her daughter during the dispute. She then left her child at the closed business and traveled to a nearby gas station in Effort, Pennsylvania. While at the gas station, Barrett did not attempt to search for her daughter or contact authorities. She later told police that after her daughter exited the vehicle, she realized her car required oil, prompting her departure to Effort. Barrett was arrested by police and transported to Monroe County Correctional Facility, where she is awaiting arraignment before a district magistrate.

Elena Lujan, 30, is accused of making disturbing remarks to her 3 and 7-year-old kids in the early hours of Saturday. Lujan reportedly told her children, “I’m sick of you,” and “Go to sleep before I f—ing kill you,” while appearing intoxicated. Police arrived at her apartment around 2 a.m. after receiving reports of the livestream. Upon their arrival, officers found Lujan passed out in the children’s room with an open bottle of tequila on the kitchen counter. Broken glass littered the floor, and her children were found sleeping in separate areas of the apartment. The probable cause statement details Lujan’s threats, including comments that suggested a desire to harm her children. She allegedly told one child, “I’ll kill her and then you’ll be the reason why she’s dead.” Lujan was taken into custody after struggling to wake up due to her level of intoxication. While being transported, she reportedly spit at an officer and refused to take a breathalyzer test. The statement notes that she is the only adult living in the home and concludes with her making numerous threats to kill her children. Lujan has been charged with child abuse and is currently being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. An arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.

  Man pleads guilty to DWI deaths in Missouri crash Mexico, MO A Missouri man received a conditional sentence following a guilty plea in connection to the deaths of two individuals in a drunk-driving incident. Joshua Frye, 24, pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of driving while intoxicated causing death, reckless driving, and DWI causing serious injury. The fatal crash occurred on July 12, as Frye drove on the wrong side of South Clark Street in Mexico. Court documents reveal that Frye drove at an excessive speed before striking an oncoming vehicle, leading to a head-on collision. Prosecutors described the incident as careless and imprudent. The victims were identified as Kristian Pritchett, 22, and Austin Terry, 27, who were passengers in Frye’s vehicle during the crash. A third person, Elliot Kitson, 29, sustained injuries but survived the incident. The driver of the other vehicle reported that Frye’s car lost control on a curve shortly before impact at approximately 6:30 a.m. Following the crash, law enforcement discovered multiple alcoholic beverages inside Frye’s vehicle. During court proceedings, Audrain County Prosecutor Jacob Shellabarger announced that Frye was sentenced to 15 years for the vehicular homicide charge and additional time for the other charges. These sentences will run concurrently, but they are suspended pending Frye’s completion of a 120-day treatment program. He has been in custody since the crash due to his own injuries. The victims’ families expressed opposition to the plea deal. They communicated their desire for Frye to serve the maximum possible punishment, emphasizing the irreversible losses they suffered. Shellabarger noted Frye’s lack of a prior criminal history when discussing the plea deal. He addressed the severe consequences of Frye’s actions, reaffirming the gravity of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Frye will face probation if he completes the treatment program. He will also be subject to strict terms of probation should he be released.
