Popular Ocean City Italian Take-Out Closes ending 69 years of service at the Jersey Shore

OCEAN CITY, NJ – For 69 years, Voltacos has fed locals and tourists alike and has been the go to place for many in the area when it comes to Italian specialties. On Sunday, the Taccarino family put out the closed sign and turned the lights off at the end of the day, like they have done so many times in the past. Except for this time, it was for good.

Since 1954, the family has operated the business, which was under its fourth generation of owners.

“As every season winds down, we always begin to look back and reflect as well as look forward and project. After much deliberation, we have come to the not-so-easy decision to make 2022 our last year in business. We do this with sadness in our hearts, as this life here is the only one we have truly ever known, but we are also happy and optimistic for our futures,” the family announced in early September.

While they have shut down, the owners today said they have left over inventory they are willing to sell at a discount.

The end did not come without opportunists trying to take advantage. The family announced today that Voltaco shirts are being sold online by third-parties seeking to cash in on the closure and reminded customers they do not sell shirts online. Some shirts are still available to purchase at the shop.

“We are in the shop today packing up leftover food and preparing for our final cleanup. We have lots of our Voltacos sauce leftover and will be selling it at half price so if you want some please stop by and take as much as you would like,” they said. “Please be aware that there are multiple third party sites trying to sell Voltacos shirts. These are knockoffs and not authentic. Buy at your own risk. We do not now nor have we ever sold our shirts via the internet. Shirts still available in the shop.”

The family leaves the business behind with their heads held up high after surviving multiple events tht would have devastated many small businesses.

“We have stayed in business through wars, hurricanes, floods, multiple economic recessions, employee shortages, supply shortages, a pandemic, and just about anything else the world can throw at a small family business to try and stop it,” the family said. “We would be naive to think there is not some sort of divine intervention at play there. We have weathered all of these and are finishing things on our terms. We hope we may have touched your lives like so many of you have touched ours.”
