Investigation continues into South River factory blaze

SOUTH RIVER, NJ -Last Tuesday, at around 10:35 pm, the South River Police Department was dispatched to Herman Street and Water Street following a report of a building on fire. On arrival, officers found an abandoned factory-style building completely engulfed in flames.

The fire escalated to a six-alarm status, prompting responses from Middlesex County Fire Marshals, South River Fire Department, and several other fire companies and EMS agencies. More than one hundred firefighters, 26 fire engines, and numerous truck companies were at the scene.

Due to the fire, one warehouse, an office building, two vacant residences, an occupied residence, and miscellaneous property sustained damage. Middlesex County Hazmat team was present to monitor air quality and offer additional support.

The incident remains an active investigation led by the Middlesex County Fire Marshals Office with the assistance of the South River Police Department Detectives.
