Man Avoids Carjacking While Pumping Gas in Newark

Newark, DE – The Delaware State Police have launched an investigation into an attempted carjacking that took place early Sunday morning at a Wawa gas station in Newark.

On Sunday at approximately 12:19 a.m., troopers responded to the Wawa located at 4651 Ogletown Stanton Road after receiving a report of an attempted carjacking.

According to the investigation, the victim, a 23-year-old man from Newark, was in the process of pumping gas when two black male suspects approached his vehicle from the driver’s side. One of the suspects exposed a handgun concealed in his waistband by lifting his shirt.

In response, the victim quickly fled the scene, prompting the suspects to try stealing the car. However, their efforts were unsuccessful, and they ultimately escaped in an unidentified vehicle.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The two suspects are described as black males wearing black masks and dark-colored clothing. Unfortunately, no surveillance images or video footage is currently available.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit has taken charge of the investigation. Detective D.
