NEWARK, N.J. – Antonio Teixeira, a 44-year-old resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey, and former staff member in the New Jersey Senate, was sentenced on Tuesday to eight months of home confinement and three years of probation.
Teixeria served as chief of staff for current NJ Senate President Nicholas Scutari, as his top aide.
His charges include one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of tax evasion.
From 2014 to 2018, Teixeira conspired with political consultant Sean Caddle, inflating invoices submitted to various campaigns, political action committees, and 501(c)(4) organizations. This illicit income was not reported in Teixeira’s tax filings during these years.
In total, Teixeira received more than $100,000 from the scheme, which he used for personal expenses without reporting the income on his tax forms.
In addition to his sentence, Teixeira has been ordered by U.S. District Judge John Michael Vazquez to pay restitution.
