Columbia Man Discovers $50,000 Powerball Win After Misreading Ticket

COLUMBIA, MD – A Columbia man initially believed his August 26 Powerball ticket was worth only a few hundred dollars, but a Lottery retailer revealed it was worth $50,000.

The 53-year-old information technology worker matched four of the five white ball numbers (20, 22, 26, 28) and the Powerball number (5), earning a third-tier prize. The man said he plans to put the prize money into a savings account.

Attributing his win to a positive mindset, the winner said, “When I am negative, I usually don’t get any numbers.” He maintains good physical and mental health through activities like biking and hiking.

The winning ticket was purchased at Royal Farms #374, located at 6430 Baltimore National Pike in Catonsville.

Tonight’s Powerball drawing has an estimated jackpot of $522 million, with a cash option of $252.4 million. This marks the third time in this year that the jackpot has surpassed half a billion dollars.
