HAGERSTOWN, MD – A 71-year-old woman from Washington County and her husband won the top prize of $100,000 from a $10 Ultimate Cash scratch-off ticket.
A few weeks ago, the husband visited Hub City Liquors in Hagerstown to buy Mega Millions and Powerball tickets. He also cashed a $10 win from a previous scratch-off and used that money to buy two more $10 scratch-offs for his wife to play.
While scratching the ticket at home, the woman discovered the top prize of $100,000. “I scratch from left to right, and when I saw the matching number, I was shocked,” she said. Her husband confirmed the win at another local Lottery retailer. The couple, now certain of their prize, shared the news with family.
The retired residents of Western Maryland intend to use the prize for holiday gifts and new furniture.
Hub City Liquors, the retailer that sold the winning ticket, will receive a $1,000 bonus, equivalent to 1% of the prize. The Ultimate Cash game, which started in June, still has six top prizes of $100,000 remaining, along with various other prizes ranging from $10 to $50,000.
