Illinois Felon Sentenced to Three Years for Possession of Firearms Charge

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Jamie Swanson, a 32-year-old from Colona, Illinois, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of firearms.

Swanson entered a guilty plea on April 11, admitting that he possessed a pistol in March 2022 after a prior felony conviction. Records from the sentencing hearing revealed that Swanson was in possession of eight firearms at the time.

The sentencing was conducted by Chief United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. In addition to the 36-month prison term, Swanson will be required to serve a two-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative focused on reducing violent crime. PSN employs a multi-stakeholder approach to identify pressing issues related to violent crime and devise comprehensive strategies to address them. The program places emphasis on targeting the most violent offenders and collaborates with local prevention and reentry programs.
