WASHINGTON, D.C. — A tragic shooting in Southeast Washington on Sunday afternoon has resulted in the death of a woman, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities.

The incident occurred around 4:25 p.m. in the 1300 block of Congress Street. Officer Hugh Carew, a spokesperson for the police department, reported that the woman was found unconscious at the scene of the shooting. Efforts to save her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead.

As of Sunday evening, the D.C. Metro Police Department had confirmed via a Twitter message that a homicide investigation was actively underway. However, details regarding a suspect or possible motive behind this tragic event remain unclear.
