Louisa B. Carman, a 25-year-old aide to Governor Phil Murphy, died in a Route 1 multi-vehicle collision in Plainsboro early Monday. Governor Murphy expressed deep sorrow over her death.
Carman worked as a policy analyst in the Governor’s Office of Health Care Affordability and Transparency. Murphy acknowledged her vital role in healthcare reform efforts in New Jersey.
The crash was reported at 1:56 AM in the southbound lane of Route 1 near College Road, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone. Carman was declared dead at the scene.
Joining the Governor’s office as an intern in fall 2021, Carman transitioned to a full-time position quickly, impressing with her dedication and policy expertise. She contributed significantly to prescription drug affordability and medical debt relief initiatives.
A 2021 graduate of Swarthmore College, Carman previously interned at Latinos Progresando and the Washington Office on Latin America.
