Queens, NY – Rey Perez faces serious charges following a deadly crash in Astoria that resulted in the death of his wife, after allegedly driving drunk and speeding.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced today that Perez, a 27-year-old Brooklyn resident, was arraigned on charges including manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, and drunk driving. The incident, which occurred on February 22, led to the tragic death of Perez’s 29-year-old wife, Bridget Enriquez, also from Brooklyn.

Perez allegedly sped through a stop sign at the intersection of 47th Street and 28th Avenue in Astoria, colliding with another vehicle before hitting parked cars and fleeing the scene. Approximately 24 minutes later, he sought help in Maspeth, four miles away, where officers found his severely damaged vehicle and his critically injured wife, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The arraignment highlighted Perez’s alleged state of intoxication at the time of the accident, with a blood alcohol content of .113 percent, above the legal limit. Additionally, Perez was driving with a suspended license. He now faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted, with his next court appearance scheduled for February 27.
