Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TWP., NJ – Officials from Somerset County and Franklin Township have announced the arrest of 61-year-old Thomas E. Carter of Highland Park, New Jersey, following an attempted murder that took place on the evening of Sunday, March 24, in Franklin Township. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman, Jr., and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather were involved in the announcement.

On the night of March 24, at around 8:03 PM, Franklin Township Police were alerted by security staff from a local trauma hospital about a victim with a stab wound believed to have been inflicted in Franklin Township. The New Brunswick resident sustained serious injuries, leading to emergency surgery. Post-surgery, detectives interviewed the victim, uncovering details of a verbal altercation on Hamilton Street, Franklin Township, during which the stabbing occurred.

The investigation pinpointed Thomas Carter as the assailant. On March 26, Carter was apprehended in Highland Park, NJ, without incident. He faces charges including 1st degree Attempted Murder, 3rd degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and 4th degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. He is currently detained in Somerset County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
