WASHINGTON, DC — A man has been detained by the D.C. Metro Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit after an attempted sexual assault incident within a Northwest apartment.
On Saturday, the incident involved the suspect, Charles Thompson Jr, 38, of Northwest D.C., brandishing a replica handgun to force a victim into a sexual act within the confines of an apartment located in the 3900 block of Davis Place in Northwest. Following the victim’s refusal, Thompson coerced the victim to stay, effectively holding the victim against their will. The victim managed to escape and alert the authorities on Sunday, around 2:20 p.m.
Attempts by law enforcement to negotiate with Thompson for a peaceful surrender were unsuccessful, leading to a barricade situation. The standoff concluded late that evening when Thompson surrendered to the police at approximately 9:49 p.m.
Thompson now faces charges of Assault with Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Abuse, Kidnapping, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), with the replica handgun being recovered by the authorities.
The D.C. Metro Police Department expressed gratitude to the Second District officers and the Emergency Response Team for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful resolution.
