South Carolina Man Sentenced for Threatening Interstate Communications

COLUMBIA, SC – Casey William Degolyer, 48, from Blair, South Carolina, has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for making threatening interstate communications. The sentencing follows his guilty plea and an investigation that highlighted his frequent and violent social media posts targeting public officials and various racial and ethnic groups.

Evidence presented in court indicated that Degolyer’s threats were explicit, calling for the execution of public officials and advocating violence against judges, law enforcement, and their families. His posts also included threats to harm members of certain racial and ethnic communities. Despite being previously contacted by law enforcement, Degolyer continued to issue threats and express his intent to “go dark and take action.”

In addition to his recent offenses, Degolyer has a history of criminal behavior, including convictions for domestic violence and violating protective orders. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of four firearms and ammunition, which he was prohibited from owning due to his criminal record.

This case underscores the serious consequences of using social media or any platform to issue threats and incite violence, especially against public figures and groups based on their ethnicity or occupation. The sentence reflects the judiciary’s commitment to addressing and curbing such harmful activities that threaten community safety and undermine the rule of law.
