SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ – Ten years ago, Superstorm Sandy devastated the Jersey Shore, in particular, here in Ocean County where the storm made landfall. That landfall decimated the barrier island in Ocean County, creating new inlets, leaving the entire region without power and flooding coastal communities along the entire length of the Jersey Shore.
No other area was hit harder in New Jersey than the boardwalk areas of Seaside Heights and Seaside Park and the surrounding residential neighborhoods.
In the aftermath, police from across America came to restore the shore and pitch in. From the Massachusetts State Police in Ortley Beach, helping residents dig through the rubble to find what was left of their belongings to the Pennsylvania State Police. The “Keystone” cops provided local security in an around Seaside Heights and Seaside Park, working with local officials to secure the area and ensure there was no looting taking place.
Over the next few weeks, Shore News Network will take a look back as we go through our library archive of the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy and reflect on what was and celebrate what it has become today.
