Hackensack man arrested on multiple charges in child sex assault case

HACKENSACK, NJ – A 42-year-old Hackensack man has been arrested and charged in connection with the repeated sexual assault of a juvenile over a nearly yearlong period, following a joint investigation by local and county authorities.

Fernando Sandoval was taken into custody on Wednesday and faces multiple charges including sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal sexual contact. His arrest stems from allegations that he sexually assaulted a juvenile in Hackensack on multiple occasions between December 21 and November 2.

The investigation began when Hackensack Police contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on November 6 to report a past sexual assault involving a juvenile. Detectives from both agencies launched an immediate probe, which led to the charges against Sandoval.

Sandoval has been charged with second-degree sexual assault, second-degree attempted sexual assault, two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the charges are accusations and that Sandoval is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case remains under active investigation, and no additional details about the victim have been released.
