Pittsburgh, PA – A 59-year-old man accused of failing to pay nearly $40,000 in child support was taken into custody on the city’s North Side earlier today, ending a months-long search tied to a bench warrant issued late last year. Authorities said the arrest followed newly developed information about his whereabouts.

Michael Aniszewski had been wanted since November when he failed to appear for a scheduled status conference related to his unpaid child support obligations. The absence prompted a bench warrant, and investigators began efforts to locate him.

Search leads to North Side arrest

The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office confirmed detectives recently identified Aniszewski’s location within Pittsburgh. “Detectives from our office developed information that Aniszewski was staying on the North Side and earlier today were able to track him down and take him into custody without incident,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Officials did not report any resistance during the arrest. After being taken into custody, Aniszewski was transported directly to family court.

Court appearance follows arrest

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced the arrest and outlined the next steps in the case. “A man with nearly $40,000 in outstanding child support has been taken into custody,” Kraus said.

Following his arrest, Aniszewski appeared before a judge regarding both the bench warrant and the outstanding child support payments, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities have not released additional details about potential penalties or future court proceedings.
