ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A man is dead following an early morning shooting Saturday after an altercation between two drivers escalated at 5th and Hamilton Streets in downtown Allentown, officials said.
According to the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred around 3:37 a.m. when a confrontation developed between the occupants of an Audi and a Toyota Prius.
As both cars traveled west on the 400 block of West Hamilton Street, the Audi forced the Prius to the curb. The Audi’s driver then exited with a metal bat and struck the driver’s side of the Prius.
The driver of the Prius, who legally possessed a 9mm handgun, fired one shot, hitting the Audi’s driver. That individual later died at Lehigh Valley Health Network – Cedar Crest.
The Prius driver then parked about a block and a half away and called 911, remaining at the scene for police. A handgun was recovered from him, and no charges have been filed at this time.
Authorities have not released the name of the deceased or either driver. The case remains under investigation by the Allentown Police Department, the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, and the District Attorney’s Office.
