Police say a Maryland man surrendered after allegedly shooting another driver during a confrontation in the casino parking garage exit line.
OXON HILL, Md. — A confrontation between two drivers waiting to leave the MGM National Harbor parking garage ended in a fatal shooting Thursday night, with the suspected gunman calling 911 and surrendering shortly afterward, according to Prince George’s County police.
Officers responded at about 11:10 p.m. Thursday to the area of Monument Avenue and MGM National Avenue for a reported crash.
When officers arrived, they found 33-year-old Christopher Austin Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia, inside a Slingshot autocycle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation, Austin and the suspect were both waiting in the exit line of the MGM National Harbor Hotel and Casino parking garage when an argument began.
Police allege that 36-year-old Tyrell Hairston of Accokeek exited his vehicle, approached Austin’s Slingshot and shot him.
Investigators said Austin then drove away before crashing nearby.
Police said Hairston called 911 a short time later and turned himself in. He is being held by the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.
Investigators said there is no indication that Hairston and Austin knew each other before their encounter in the garage exit line.
The investigation remains ongoing.
