Armed confrontation on Glen Burnie street leads to arrest

Glen Burnie man arrested after rifle threat and gunfire reported on Pamela Road

GLEN BURNIE, MD – A late-night confrontation on a Glen Burnie street ended with one man in custody after police say two suspects armed with firearms confronted a group before one pointed a rifle and the other fired multiple shots into the air.

Officers responded to Pamela Road around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of gunfire. The investigation determined that the two suspects approached a group in the 400 block and brandished weapons during the encounter. One suspect raised what appeared to be a rifle at the group, while the second discharged several rounds into the air before both fled the area.

Police quickly identified both suspects and located one of them at a nearby apartment. A search warrant was executed at the residence, leading investigators to seize a 9mm Canik handgun and a paintball gun designed to resemble a rifle. The recovered items matched descriptions provided to officers during the initial response.

The arrested individual, identified as 40-year-old Luis Emmanuel Mendez-Matos of Glen Burnie, was taken into custody and charged. Charges for the second suspect remain pending as detectives continue reviewing evidence and conducting additional interviews.

Eastern District investigators are asking anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the district or the county’s anonymous tip line. No injuries were reported.
