Armed trio robs man of $12K cash near Yankee Stadium in broad daylight

Three men robbed a 53-year-old man at gunpoint near Yankee Stadium on Friday morning, stealing a bag containing $12,500 in cash before fleeing the scene in a white Lexus, according to police.

The robbery occurred just after 11 a.m. near Gerard Avenue and East 157th Street in the Bronx. The victim was getting out of his vehicle when he was approached by three men. One displayed what appeared to be a black firearm while the others seized the bag, police said.

The suspects then jumped into a white Lexus and drove westbound on East 157th Street toward River Avenue. The victim was not physically harmed during the incident.

Photos of the suspects were released by the NYPD on Sunday. All three are described as Hispanic men in their late 20s, standing between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall.

The incident took place approximately two blocks from Yankee Stadium in the 44th Precinct.

Police seek help in identifying suspects caught on camera

Despite the armed nature of the robbery, no injuries were reported. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking tips from the public to identify the suspects.

The NYPD noted that the robbery occurred as overall incidents of robbery in the 44th Precinct have declined. As of April 27, there have been 135 robberies reported in the precinct, down from 175 during the same time last year — a drop of nearly 23%.

The suspects fled with the stolen cash before officers could respond to the scene. Authorities are focusing their efforts on tracing the vehicle and identifying the men through video evidence.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
