Baltimore barber’s itchy hand leads to $40K lottery windfall

An itchy hand and a gut feeling led one Baltimore man to a $40,000 Keno prize in a grocery store surp

BALTIMORE, Md. — A Baltimore man who followed a hunch sparked by an itchy hand walked away with a $40,000 Keno prize after buying a ticket at a grocery store in Parkville, according to Maryland Lottery officials.

Key Points

  • $40,000 Keno prize won on a 6-spot ticket with Super Bonus multiplier
  • Ticket purchased at Giant store on East Joppa Road in Parkville
  • Player matched all six numbers and hit a 4x multiplier

Lucky numbers and timing align for big win

The Baltimore City resident was grocery shopping at the Giant located at 1955 East Joppa Road when he suddenly felt an intense itch in his hand. He interpreted it as a sign of luck and headed straight to the Lottery kiosk. Using a set of random numbers he had seen earlier in the day, he played a 6-spot Keno ticket with the Super Bonus option and placed a $10 wager.

After the game, he scanned the ticket and received a prompt to “see Lottery,” indicating a major prize. Matching all six numbers earned him a base prize of $1,000, which increased to $10,000 due to the bet amount — and the x4 Super Bonus multiplier pushed his total winnings to $40,000.

Barber plans to save winnings after lucky moment

The player, a local barber, said he plans to save the money. He shared the news with his grandmother shortly after claiming the prize, saying the win was completely unexpected.

The Giant store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $400 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
