PRINCE FREDERICK, MD – A months-long, multijurisdictional investigation into a credit card skimming operation across Maryland has led to the arrest of a Baltimore man accused of installing illegal devices at convenience stores, authorities announced Thursday.
Detectives with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, working with federal and regional partners, identified 20-year-old Becam CiuCiu of Baltimore as the primary suspect in a series of skimming incidents targeting 7-Eleven stores in Calvert County and surrounding areas. Investigators say the crimes date back to October 2025 and involved the use of hidden electronic devices designed to capture debit and credit card information.
Following weeks of surveillance, data analysis, and coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, deputies executed search and arrest warrants on February 5 at residences in Baltimore City. During the operation, officers seized 15 skimming devices, 71 encoded “cash-out” cards, skimming manufacturing equipment, and $21,264 in cash, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators uncover statewide fraud network
CiuCiu was taken into custody and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. He is charged with possession of a skimming device (two counts) and ID fraud with intent to manufacture or distribute (two counts). Authorities say the investigation remains active and additional arrests are possible.
