Belleville Respiratory Therapist Charged After 86-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Abused at North Bergen Nursing Facility

North Bergen, N.J. — A Belleville man working as a respiratory therapist at a North Bergen nursing facility now faces charges after investigators accused him of physically abusing and neglecting an 86-year-old patient over multiple days, according to the North Bergen Police Department.

Harry Elias, 69, was arrested following a joint elder abuse investigation conducted by the North Bergen Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Authorities said the alleged abuse involved an elderly female resident at the Harborage Nursing Facility in North Bergen and occurred during April and May 2026.

Investigation Focuses on Alleged Abuse of Vulnerable Patient

Police did not release details about the specific injuries or conditions allegedly suffered by the patient, but officials described the accusations as a major breach of trust involving a vulnerable resident receiving medical care.

“This case represents a serious breach of trust involving one of our most vulnerable residents,” North Bergen Police Chief Robert J. Farley Jr. said in a statement announcing the arrest.
