Child was breathing but unresponsive when Hackettstown officers arrived and remains in critical condition
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – A 3-year-old boy was airlifted to a New Jersey hospital Thursday evening after being found in a swimming pool and pulled from the water, with police saying the child remains in stable but critical condition while investigators work to determine what happened.
Hackettstown Police responded to a residence on Reese Avenue at approximately 6:55 p.m. Thursday following a report of a drowning involving the child.
When officers arrived, they found the boy surrounded by several adults.
The child was breathing but was not responding, according to police.
Officers were told that CPR had been started before they arrived.
Police said the 3-year-old had been found in a swimming pool and pulled from the water.
The Hackettstown First Aid & Rescue Squad transported the boy from the residence to Hatchery Hill School.
The Hackettstown Fire Department established a landing zone at the school for an Atlantic Air One medical helicopter.
The child was then flown to Morristown Medical Center for further treatment.
Police said Friday that the boy was listed in stable but critical condition.
Authorities have not released information explaining how the child entered the pool or how long he may have been in the water.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and police said no additional information was available.
