Boston police arrest two after recovering firearm and drugs in traffic stop

DORCHESTER, MA — A routine traffic stop late Wednesday night led to the arrest of two Dorchester residents, Mekhi Phipps-Dedrick, 21, and Chance Pierre, 19, after Boston Police and the Mass State Police Gang Unit discovered a loaded firearm, drugs, and a large capacity feeding device.

On May 29th, 2024, around 10:52 PM, officers from the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force were patrolling near the intersection of Dorchester Ave. and Talbot Ave. They initiated a traffic stop on a black Toyota Corolla with excessively dark window tint and traveling at high speeds. Upon interaction, both occupants displayed agitation and non-compliance towards the officers.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a backpack containing multiple sealed packages of marijuana and $300 in cash. Further investigation led to the discovery of a Glock ghost gun with an extended magazine and 16 live 9mm cartridges in the trunk’s spare tire compartment.

Phipps-Dedrick faces several charges including excessive window tint, speeding, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a large capacity feeding device. He is expected to be arraigned at Dorchester Court.

Pierre, who also became agitated during the stop, is facing an arraignment in New Bedford District Court related to a separate warrant for disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a family or household member.
