Brentwood man indicted for murder after deadly parking lot attack in Suffolk County

July 3, 2025

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — A Suffolk County grand jury indicted a 21-year-old Brentwood man on Thursday for allegedly killing another man by repeatedly running him over with a car following a violent altercation outside a bar last month.

Alex Reyes was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 46-year-old Alexander Velasquez, also of Brentwood, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced.

According to investigators, the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on June 22 in a parking lot on Clarke Street near Miguelino’s Bar. Reyes and several unidentified men allegedly punched and kicked Velasquez until he collapsed. Reyes then allegedly entered his 2021 white BMW and drove over Velasquez’s body three times before fleeing the scene.

A Good Samaritan discovered the victim’s body shortly afterward and called 911. Velasquez was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner.

Police arrested Reyes the next day on Wicks Road in Brentwood while he was driving the same BMW allegedly used in the attack.

Reyes was arraigned Thursday before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis, who ordered him held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on August 18 and faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Elena Tomaro and Zachary Kelly and investigated by the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad.

Prosecutors say Reyes used his car as a weapon after the initial assault, resulting in a fatal escalation.
