Sleeping subway passenger robbed at times square station

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A 33-year-old man was robbed early Tuesday morning while sleeping aboard a northbound 7 train approaching the 42 Street subway station, police said.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m., when an unidentified man sat next to the victim and cut his right pants pocket, removing a wallet while the victim slept. The wallet contained credit and debit cards, identification, a MetroCard, and approximately $150 in cash.

According to police, the suspect later attempted multiple unauthorized transactions using the stolen credit cards.

The suspect fled the subway station on foot in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.

The individual is described as a male with a dark complexion and black hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, gray jeans, and white and gray sneakers.

Police have not announced any arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

The theft marks another reported case of sleeping subway passengers being targeted for pickpocketing.
