Brick mayor reminds residents of no knock registry to prevent unwanted solicitors

BRICK, N.J. — Mayor Lisa Crate is reminding residents of Brick Township about the town’s no-knock registry, a program designed to help homeowners avoid unwanted visits from door-to-door solicitors.

In a public address, Crate said she frequently receives emails and phone calls from residents frustrated by salespeople coming to their doors at various hours, including weekends. To address these concerns, she urged residents to sign up for the township’s no-knock list, which is maintained by the clerk’s office and provided to all registered solicitors.

“If you do not wish to have salespeople coming to your door, I highly recommend you go on our website and register to get on the no-knock list,” Crate said.

The list is updated twice a year and given to any sales group that registers with the township. In addition to signing up online, residents can visit town hall to obtain a sticker for $1 from the clerk’s office. The sticker serves as an added measure to indicate that solicitors are not welcome at that residence.

Crate also reminded residents of their rights when dealing with door-to-door solicitors. If someone comes to their home, whether they are on the no-knock list or not, residents should ask to see the salesperson’s township-issued permit. Solicitors are required to register with the town and carry proof of their authorization. If an individual does not have proper identification, residents are encouraged to ask them to leave and notify the police.

“If someone comes to your door and they’re not registered, then you have every right to tell them to leave,” Crate said. “You can actually call the police and let them know that there are people soliciting in your neighborhood without the proper identification.”

The no-knock registry is part of Brick Township’s ongoing effort to give residents more control over unwanted solicitations while ensuring that all door-to-door sales comply with local regulations.
