Bronx man charged in violent rape on Virginia Avenue

BRONX, N.Y. — A 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the brutal rape of a 26-year-old woman on Virginia Avenue, authorities said.

The victim was attacked around 3:30 a.m. in front of a residence on Virginia Avenue as she was walking alone, police said. The assailant reportedly approached her from behind, struck her multiple times on the right side of her body, and then sexually assaulted her.

The suspect, identified as Gregory Williams of Westchester Avenue, was arrested later that day at 12:45 p.m. in the confines of the 41st Precinct, according to the NYPD. He was last seen fleeing southbound on Virginia Avenue before turning eastbound on McGraw Avenue following the attack.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition after the incident. The NYPD’s Bronx Special Victims Squad is leading the investigation.

Williams faces charges including two counts of first-degree rape, third-degree assault, third-degree sexual abuse, and second-degree harassment.
