A person selling candy in a Wilmington shopping center parking lot was forced to hand over property after an armed suspect displayed a handgun, according to Delaware State Police.

WILMINGTON, Del. — A person selling candy in the parking lot of a Wilmington shopping center was robbed at gunpoint Monday evening after refusing an initial demand for property, according to the Delaware State Police.

The robbery occurred at approximately 5 p.m. in the 3100 block of Kirkwood Highway. Investigators said the suspect fled the scene with the victim’s belongings, and no injuries were reported.

Suspect displayed handgun during confrontation

According to Delaware State Police, the victim was walking through the shopping center parking lot selling candy when an unidentified suspect approached and demanded the victim’s property.

When the victim initially refused, the suspect displayed a handgun. Police said the victim then complied with the demand, and the suspect fled before troopers arrived.

Investigation remains active

The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the armed robbery.
