NYPD Seeks Robbery Suspect Accused of Stealing Cellphone at Columbus Circle Subway Station

Police say a man repeatedly punched a subway rider on a Manhattan train platform before grabbing the victim’s cellphone and fleeing aboard an A train.

Manhattan, NY – The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery at the 59 Street–Columbus Circle subway station in Manhattan.

According to the NYPD Crime Stoppers, the robbery occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. on May 26 at the station, within the confines of the Midtown North Precinct and Transit District 1.

Victim assaulted on subway platform

Police said a 46-year-old man was standing on the southbound A train platform when he was approached by an unidentified individual.

Investigators allege the suspect punched the victim multiple times, causing him to drop his cellphone. The suspect then picked up the phone and fled aboard a northbound A train.

Authorities have not released additional information about the victim’s injuries.

Public asked to identify suspect

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect and is asking anyone who recognizes the individual or has information about the robbery to contact investigators.
