WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of vehicle thefts and break-ins that occurred across multiple private parking garages throughout the District, the Metropolitan Police Department announced Wednesday.
Corey Pinkins of Southeast D.C. is accused of entering apartment and hotel garages, breaking into vehicles, stealing property, and in several cases, fleeing in stolen cars. Detectives linked Pinkins to at least 14 separate incidents between March and June.
Six of the reported cases involved stolen vehicles, all of which have since been recovered. Multiple others included destruction of property and theft of belongings from inside vehicles.
Pinkins was taken into custody earlier this week, and property belonging to one of the victims was found on him at the time of arrest. He is also facing an additional charge as a Fugitive of Justice from Prince George’s County.
Incidents span several neighborhoods and dates
Police said the offenses occurred across Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, and Northwest D.C., including multiple incidents in the same blocks over consecutive days. Some locations were targeted more than once, with multiple crimes committed within hours.
Detectives from MPD’s Auto Theft Unit led the investigation and worked to piece together surveillance footage, vehicle recovery evidence, and physical property ties to identify Pinkins as the suspect.
He now faces a lengthy list of charges, including Theft 1 Stolen Auto, Destruction of Property, Theft from Auto, and Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle.
