Carjackers Strike Multiple Victims in Newark

August 11, 2024

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying suspects involved in an attempted carjacking incident earlier today.

This Sunday, just after noon, suspects attempted a carjacking at a Mobil Gas Station located at the intersection of Frelinghuysen Avenue and Meeker Avenue. They were reportedly using a stolen vehicle, described as a black 2020 BMW series 330 with tinted windows and alloy rims, bearing New Jersey license plate number B54PEK.

The vehicle was reported stolen earlier today from East Orange and was used by the suspects to travel into Newark before attempting to carjack another victim’s Mercedes Benz. Following the attempt, the suspects fled in the stolen BMW.

Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé has urged anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the vehicle or the suspects to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Confidential tips leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Newark Police Division’s website.
