FISHERS, Ind. — A 24-year-old cemetery worker was arrested Monday night after police say he exhumed a grave at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in an attempt to retrieve a gold ring buried with an urn.
Seth Davidson was taken into custody by the Fishers Police Department after an officer noticed a suspicious vehicle near the cemetery. Moments later, Davidson emerged from a wooded area nearby, allegedly covered in dirt “from head to toe,” according to a police press release.
Authorities said Davidson told investigators he “couldn’t stop thinking” about the ring inside the urn. He is now facing multiple charges, including cemetery mischief, theft, and criminal trespass.
Police allege Davidson disturbed burial ground without a proper plan and unlawfully removed human remains. The value of the stolen property was estimated to be between $750 and $50,000.
Charges and ongoing investigation
According to the Fishers Police, Davidson has no contractual right to the property and entered the gravesite without consent. He is also accused of disturbing ground containing human remains, which requires prior authorization under Indiana law.
The incident remains under investigation. Davidson is currently being held and awaiting judicial proceedings.
