CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Cherry Hill Fire Department (CHFD) is urging residents to exercise caution around frozen ponds and waterways, emphasizing that “no ice is safe ice,” even during sub-freezing conditions.

In a statement shared on social media Friday, CHFD highlighted its recent ice rescue training, conducted over the past several weeks on local frozen bodies of water. The training ensures that Rescue Company 13, based on Marlkress Road, and Ladder Company 1324, stationed at Erlton, remain prepared to respond to ice-related emergencies.

Officials are warning residents to avoid venturing onto ice, whether for recreation or to rescue pets. “Pets and people should exercise extreme caution around frozen bodies of water and call 911 in the event of an emergency,” the department stated.

Ice rescues require specialized skills and equipment, and the department stresses that untrained individuals attempting to assist could put themselves in further danger.

With temperatures still low and frozen waterways a tempting sight for outdoor activity, CHFD continues to prioritize public safety education and readiness.
