HAMPTON, Va. – A 22-year-old Chesapeake man was killed Monday morning after losing control of his vehicle and crashing along Interstate 664 in Hampton, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred around 9:02 a.m. near Exit 2 when a 2020 Volkswagen traveling northbound at a high rate of speed lost control in the left lane, crossed all lanes of traffic, and veered off the right side of the highway. The vehicle struck a tree and a culvert pipe before coming to rest.
The driver, identified as Andre L. Yeager Jr., died at the scene. Investigators said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
State Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
