Child Dies, Two Injured After Police Chase Ends in Tragic Crash in Prince George’s County

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md.— A police chase that stemmed from an AMBER Alert issued in Virginia Beach ended in a fatal crash in Prince George’s County on Thursday morning, leaving one child dead and two others injured.

The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) reported that the chase was connected to an incident on August 14, where 36-year-old Dana Demetrius Plummer allegedly stabbed a woman and a child in the 900 block of Jay Art Court before abducting three children—7-year-old Zayin Plummer, 5-year-old Zayir Plummer, and 16-month-old Za’riyah Plummer. The victims were treated at a hospital and were in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon.

Following the stabbing, an AMBER Alert was issued, and authorities were on the lookout for the SUV Plummer was driving. On Thursday morning, Virginia State Police spotted the vehicle on I-95 in Fairfax County and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Plummer refused to pull over, leading to a chase that continued into Maryland on I-495. The pursuit ended when Plummer lost control of the SUV and crashed.

Plummer was arrested at the scene, and all three children were taken to the hospital. Tragically, 16-month-old Za’riyah Plummer succumbed to her injuries. The other two children, Zayin and Zayir, were injured but survived the crash.

Plummer now faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Parental Abduction, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Domestic Assault.
