The comment, which was cited by Mediaite, underscored Christie’s skepticism, as he quipped that five dollars is “not a lot of conviction” for “a guy from New Jersey.”

Christie also questioned former President Donald Trump’s willingness to accept the election results if he were to lose. “What’s the evidence that he will?” Christie asked, adding, “All of a sudden now he’s going to get religion and accept them if he loses? I don’t think that’s the case.”

Reflecting on Trump’s influence on the electoral process, Christie noted that a refusal by Trump to concede in 2024 would not carry the same weight as it did in the 2020 election, when Trump was the sitting president. “Now, I don’t think it’ll matter nearly as much as it did four years ago because he’s not the president, so his influence on what will happen postelection is significantly less now than it was four years ago,” Christie said.

Christie, a former ally of Trump turned critic, has frequently voiced concerns about Trump’s impact on the Republican Party and the integrity of the electoral process. His comments come as the GOP field continues to grapple with Trump’s dominance in the polls and his influence over the party’s base.
