CINNAMINSON, N.J. – With several inches of snow expected to fall across the region this weekend, Cinnaminson Township Police are reminding residents of local snow ordinances that could lead to towing or fines if ignored.
The department issued a statement Saturday emphasizing that vehicles blocking plow routes may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Police said the reminder comes as the township prepares for what could be the first major snow event of the season.
Parking restrictions during snow emergencies
Under township ordinance § 2-9, a snow emergency is declared whenever snow accumulation covers the streets or highways, prohibiting parking until plows have cleared the roadways. Vehicles left in the street during that time are considered a hazard and may be removed by police to allow for safe and efficient snow operations.
Officers said vehicle owners must pay all towing and storage fees before reclaiming their cars. The ordinance remains in effect until the roads are fully cleared and traffic can resume normal flow.

Property owners required to clear sidewalks
According to township code § 450-1, residents and business owners must remove snow and ice from sidewalks bordering their properties within 24 hours after snowfall ends. If ice cannot be safely removed, it must be covered with sand, salt, or cinders to prevent slips and falls.
For multi-unit buildings, responsibility for sidewalk clearing falls to the first-floor tenant or occupant. Walkways must be cleared at least 24 inches wide to allow safe pedestrian passage.
Throwing snow into streets prohibited
Police also reminded residents that pushing or shoveling snow from private driveways or sidewalks onto public streets is prohibited under ordinance § 450-2. The rule is intended to keep streets clear for plows and prevent new hazards from forming after plowing.
Town officials urged residents to follow all snow-related regulations to ensure safe travel and allow Public Works crews to operate efficiently throughout the storm.
