HILLSIDE, N.J. — Morning commuters faced several disruptions across New Jersey roadways Friday, with a series of crashes, disabled vehicles, and delays reported on key highways.
At 8:14 a.m., a crash on the southbound Garden State Parkway just north of Exit 141 in Hillside Township was cleared, with all lanes now open. However, traffic continues to recover in the area. Earlier, at 7:30 a.m., a separate crash on the northbound Garden State Parkway at Exit 50 in Bass River Township also had all lanes open following the incident.
Another incident involved a disabled vehicle on I-80 eastbound, reported around 8:10 a.m., just east of Exit 56 in West Paterson. One right lane remained closed, causing delays. At 7:59 a.m., a crash on the eastbound Port Street Bridge blocked the right lane, contributing to further congestion.
Emergency construction following a gas main break on NJ 45 in Woodbury continues to impact both directions near Delaware Street and Cooper Avenue. Traffic was reported to be shifting around the construction zone, with police advising drivers to use caution.
In addition to incidents, several major routes faced delays due to high volume. Northbound delays stretched for six miles on the Garden State Parkway from East Orange to Clifton as of 8:37 a.m. Meanwhile, travel times on the George Washington Bridge were 20 to 25 minutes on both lower and upper levels, with delays extending from I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.
Commuters at the Lincoln Tunnel faced 15-minute delays through both the center and south tunnels. Additional congestion was noted on NJ 495 westbound, where traffic from Union City to the New Jersey Turnpike was moving slowly with 5-10 minute delays.
Authorities urged drivers to plan ahead and allow extra travel time amidst the ongoing incidents and morning rush hour delays.
