Crews Knock Down Early Morning House Fire in Plumsted Township After Hours-Long Response

PLUMSTED TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Firefighters battled an early morning structure fire for several hours Friday, bringing heavy flames under control before clearing the scene around sunrise, officials said.

The fire was reported just before 2:00 a.m. on April 17, prompting a response from Cassville Fire Company and additional units to a residence in Plumsted Township.

Crews face active fire on arrival

Engine 5610 arrived first and was assigned to operations as firefighters encountered active fire conditions, according to fire officials.

Additional apparatus quickly joined the effort, including Engine 5618, whose crew advanced a 1.75-inch handline while also deploying a blitz fire and deck gun to aggressively attack the bulk of the flames.

The combination of interior and exterior suppression tactics helped crews gain control of the fire as it spread through the structure.

Ladder operations and overhaul continue for hours

Truck 5625 was later brought into the operation, playing a key role in ladder pipe operations. Elevated streams were used to reach remaining fire areas and support crews working below.

Firefighters then transitioned into extensive overhaul operations, a labor-intensive phase where crews search for hidden hot spots to prevent rekindling.
